#tumblr i’ve come to a recent realization #and it’s that i really really love bella swan #like i stanned her out of defensiveness and wanting to rescue her from her franchise for ages #but lately i’ve been thinking about her a lot as a character on her own terms and i realized that SHE IS FASCINATING AND I LOVE HER #people say she has ~no personality~ and there’s nothing to her outside her relationship with edward #but that ain’t even a little true #like yes the fact that the narrative positions her so passively is a huge problem but that’s not her fault #and seriously #she’s a sarcastic socially awkward nerd who struggles to connect with other people #and she’s so insecure and yet also so stubborn #and she resents ordinariness and mundanity SO MUCH #she rejects bland everyday life and craves uniqueness + adventure so goddamn badly #(give me the fucking fruit) #fictional ladies i will go to bat for no apologies

#the narrative does her no favors #but bella could be such a great character #she’s resilient and holds her own #this is the girl that defies everyone to go after a murderous vampire because she thinks she can save her mother #this is the girl that gives no fucks about any danger to her soul when it comes to choosing between it and her want of being immortal #and i wish her desire for being turned was more about her wanting to be a vampire and a little less about edward #because i think bella is wired for immortality; she’s always outside of the normal circle of things #she acts as an observer at certain moments (but that’s what vampires do too) #her emotional sensitivity and her attraction to music and certain other eternal aspects of the world place her beyond something human #in the hands of someone other than her creator she could be such an incredible character #but i still love the glimmers of what we initially got to see #i’m not a fan of where the canon went or of the films but i am always team bella
